Since last week, there have been some developments regarding the construction progress on our project DAS ARTMANN . This time, it’s not just INSIDE, but actually NEXT TO the building—more precisely, right on the Danube Canal:
What’s going on here…?
The work currently underway involves providing the building with a sustainable energy supply using heat and cooling from the Danube Canal’s river water.
Using river water, our building can be heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. To do this, river water must be drawn from the bottom of the Danube Canal, routed through a 70-meter-long supply line at a depth of approximately 3 meters beneath Wettsteinpark and under Obere Donaustraße to the building’s heat pumps, and then returned to the Danube Canal via a return line. During heating, thermal energy is extracted from the river water, and it is returned to the Danube Canal at a slightly lower temperature—during cooling, the principle works the same way, but cooling energy is extracted from the water.
The supply and return lines, along with other lines for power and control, are housed inside a steel pipe with a diameter of 60 cm. This steel pipe, which functions, so to speak, like a mini-tunnel and into which these lines are then pulled, is currently being driven underground using a pipe-jacking method.
Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? And here’s what it looks like …
In the middle of last week, this was still the scene along the Danube Canal:

By Friday, the hole had already been dug, and the drilling foreman had inspected the access shaft:

Here’s where things stood on Monday morning:

And here’s what it looks like today:

Today, the second segment was poured with concrete at the Danube Canal and then lowered for the first time—by excavating the soil inside the ring, causing the ring to sink.
The drilling rig was hoisted out this morning, and drilling can begin this afternoon! We’ll keep you posted… 🙂
In addition to the construction progress, which we keep you updated on via our blog, you can find on our project website all the information about the property itself, such as the apartments still available, the construction and finishing specifications, and, of course, the floor plans.
